While it’s sad to hear about so many animals having to be euthanized each month, the fact is that there are not 2.2M potential adopters. That 2.2M includes every child, baby and elderly person who cannot live unassisted, much less take care of an animal. There are a little over 400k households in Houston, and that includes apartment units (even 400 sq ft efficiencies). Considering a majority of households already have pets, how on earth can Houston be expected to adopt its way out of this problem? Mandatory spay and neutering laws are the answer, with hefty fines associated with not complying.
